Driving drunk to a police station? Not a good idea.

If you want some good advice, I suggest a reminder for people not to drink and drive, especially to the police station, would be high on the list of importance.

Last Sunday night, Canadian Police arrested an 18-year-old man at the University of Victoria after complaints he was stumbling around and yelling at people. The Police press release states

“When speaking with officers he was barely able to stand and smelled strongly of alcohol and really didn’t know where he was, he then became confrontational and hostile with officers, prompting police to arrest him  under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act for being intoxicated and secured in cells.”

His thoughtful 19-year-old girlfriend showed up at police headquarters about 30 minutes later to pick him up. Police said

“While speaking to an officer at the front desk she was also found to have a strong odour of liquor. When asked how she arrived at the police station, she said in a taxi. When officers looked at the video monitors, no evidence of a taxi cab was seen at the station.”

Police officers, deciding to watch her leave via the security cameras, saw her walking towards a car.

After preventing her from driving away she admitted she had actually driven there. Adding insult to injury, the good Samaritan failed her own breathalyzer test and is now forbidden to drive for 90 days. Worse, the car police say she drove to the cop station — her sister’s — has been impounded.

Advice forthcoming from the police?

“The moral to the story is don’t drive to the police station if you have been drinking”
